Live a life - SMS alerts to save trafficking women in India and Nepal

Challenges Entered:
Thousands of women from neighboring countries are trafficked to large metros of India. Police, community and victims can take immediate actions in various stages of such occurrences. Thanks to this project, victims can inform police through a simple SMS or by an IVR about the incident and possible location. Police will receive the SMS and take urgent action for rescue the victim.

What
"India has emerged as a key destination and transit point for global trafficking of women and girls", says a report by Times of India. They become subjugated to various forms of torture, gang rape and different sexual act. It will be important to develop a reliable, easy to get communication and reporting tool that draws the attention of police or interested stakeholders. Mobile and landline phones may be the only available option to those who want to report such incidence.

The experiment will be demonstrated in the border areas of Nepal and India where girls are trafficked in rather higher volume. Victims or anybody informed about trafficking can send an SMS or make a call through an IVR to report about the incident. This report is then processed through a database according to an approximate location of the victim and then immediately sent to designated police personnel responsible for given location and time.

Why
Trafficking has been on the rise and actions will act as a trigger for nabbing the culprits and facilitate rehabilitation of trafficked girls and boys.
