Involver: How Nonprofits Can Create Video Campaigns for Social Networks.
We would seek to replicate on a larger scale a project recently completed in Ngelepen, Java, Indonesia. We would like to give the people in the squatters village or "colonios" in Peublos Negras, Mexico a new lease on life by building them a new village and in sheparding them with other NGOs to new dreams including education and sustainability. We are a nonprofit business. Please see the following video to see what we have done in Indonesia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd1U7v_2La0 Thank You, Rebecca South, President Domes for the World 469-853-1412 rebecca@dftw.org
The construction methods used are extremely cost effecient and the buildings last for centuries. We will seek funding through a variety of sources, but after construction begins we will launch a for-profit company in Mexico (building domes) utilizing Mexican crews trained on-site and Mexican Foreman to help pay for the new village for the poverty stricken residents of the Colosio colonios.
Initial Funding. The local leaders are on-board. We have done this before. We know Mexico is perfectly suited to such a project.
Initial Funding. We would want $1 mil. to start. I would not want to begin with any less than could build more than two-thirds of the first 300 homes. (Including clean water, roads, septic, etc.)
Initial field study -- completed In-depth feasibility scheduled for May. Initial funds (Goal: $1 mil) Groundbreaking ceremony -- September Construction begins -- October First 100 homes finished by March 2008. Meanwhile $2 mil more raised. 300 homes + community center, etc. finished by Dec. 2008.
The people of the colonios "Luis Donaldo Colosio" in Peublos Negras, Mexico deserve better March 19, 2007, As we drove down the road we saw hundreds of families living in makeshift houses. The homes are generally made up of old shipping crates, cardboard boxes, some corrugated metal (if they're lucky), maybe some cement bricks (if they're really lucky), sheets, tarps, and whatever else can be scavenged. As expected, everyone was very warm and generously let us come into their homes. We found dirt floor and outhouses. Ramshackle electrical hookups. It is not a sanitary or safe environment. If one house caught on fire, the entire settlement would go up in flames. The settlement runs along BOTH sides of the railroad tracks. And there are trains every 20 minutes or so. And they do not slow down. Little kids are running everywhere. It is very dangerous. To add to all this, there is no way to dispose of trash. The land opposite of the settlement is covered in garbage. It is so bad, the only way to clean it up would be to clear the land completely with a dozer. I can only imagine there has to be a rodent problem. We proprose to build the residents of this conlonios a new village; "Memorial de Colosios" modeled after our pilot project, "New Ngelepen". Does the project have a website?
Just wondering if the project has a website yet.
Also, you mention that you are a "nonprofit business" ...I tend to think of those as opposed terms. Could you explain?
I work with Grassroots.org, an organization that is developing a free toolbox (including website development tools) for nonprofits: Grassroots.org Nonprofit Toolbox, which may be of interest to your organization. Good luck!
