We have developed a system that enables mobile phone subscribers to accumulate savings by completing tasks for companies who pay them with mPesa (mobile money), airtime, or other currency surrogates. We will also be partnering with regional banks to provide users with the option of transferring their earnings into traditional bank accounts in their name. It is our hope that providing a broad suite of potential payment and savings instruments will inform the design of future savings solutions for the rural poor.
Nokia has agreed to be our first client and will be sponsoring over 100,000 tasks; however, major players within the $12B medical transcription industry have also expressed interest in the system potentially providing a virtually unlimited number of tasks. Safaricom is championing txteagle within Kenya and has committed to covering all the communication (voice, SMS and data) charges as well as advertising resources (co-branded with Safaricom) in exchange for a fraction of the revenue generated by subscribers. MTN Rwanda has expressed interest in coming to a similar agreement.
However, in order for our business to scale, we need to make several key hires within the $150B Business-Process-Outsourcing (BPO) service industry specifically individuals who have experience with services, such as translation and transcription, which can be accomplished with standard GSM mobile telephones.

BOP crowdsourcing
It seems like securing executives in BPO makes sense, but what about quantitative analysis experts? My feeling is that getting access to users will be easy - ensuring that you get useful and accurate data in return will be more tricky (hence the need for a stats guru).
Otherwise, fantastic idea!
