SeniorNet, an international organization of computer-using adults, age 50 and older, closes the Digital Divide for seniors enhancing their lives and enabling them to share their knowledge and wisdom by providing education for and access to computer technologies. We develop our own curriculum. Our curricula is highly interactive and our teaching methodology is peer-based.
Founded in 1986 SeniorNet supports over 230 Learning Centers throughout the U.S. and in other countries. In 2006 seniorNet will launch a year of 20th anniversary events starting with a celebration in washington, DC in october.
SeniorNet publishes a quarterly newsletter and a variety of instructional materials;offers discounts on computer-related and other products and services; holds regional conferences and collaborates in research on older adults and technology. SeniorNet operates http://www.seniornet.org, where all individuals 50 and older and others who are interested in the SeniorNet community, whether or not they are members of SeniorNet, are welcome to participate in our online communities and the hundreds of discussion topics.
SeniorNet grew out of a research project funded by the Markle Foundation in 1986 to determine if computers and telecommunications could enhance the lives of older adults. Based in Santa Clara, California, SeniorNet is funded by membership dues, Learning Center fees, donations of individuals and the generous sponsorship of many companies and foundations.
