Tagging

UPDATE: In support of the N2Y3 Mashup Challenge Project Submission process, (live until March 14, 2008 at 5:00 PM Pacific Time), we're updating the "Share" section. Please excuse our mess, we are expecting to be done Monday, February 11th, around 5 PM PST.

What is Tagging?

Tagging is a fast-growing technology that allows users to re-mix and re-organize the web in an infinite number of ways. For a quick introduction to tagging, check out these resources:

  • The del.icio.us help page
  • Alexandra Samuel's intro to tagging
  • Technorati's tag collection

  • How is tagging used on the NetSquared site?

We use a number of tagging tools to help us pull content onto this site from across the web. You can contribute by using these tools to add your blog posts, photos or web resources to the site.

Some of the tools we're using:

    • del.icio.us
Many of the web resources on this site were brought here by del.icio.us, a website that lets you store links to your favourite websites. If you use del.icio.us to keep track of your web favorites or bookmarks, you can start contributing resources to this site by using the tag "net2" along with any other tag that describes the link. If you don't use del.icio.us then this page can help you get started.

    • Flickr
If you take digital photos with a camera or camera phone, your photos can be part of this site. Flickr is a web site that lets you upload, store and organize your photos; depending on how many photos you store on the site it's either free or $24.95/year. Once you're a member you can share photos with other Flickr users, or even set some of your photos to automatically appear on the Net2 site; just add the tag "net2" to any Flickr photo you want to post to this site. Or e-mail your photos to net2photos@gmail.com, and they'll post here automatically.

    • Technorati
Technorati is like the Google of blogs: it searches the world of blogs to find blog posts on a particular topic. If you use categories to organize your own blog posts, you can create a category called "net2"; anything you post to that category should get pulled into this site via Technorati. Or you can take the direct approach, and add a bit of code to any post you want to put on the Net2 site:
