The social web is still new territory. More and more of it has become mainstream and, certainly, the vocabulary of the social web -- friending, blogs, podcasts, and so on -- are becoming terms that we use without thinking.

But working at a deeper level -- inside the belly of the data and the technologies -- talking about and implementing the bits that make up data portability, the use of APIs, the different kinds of data markup -- is still new. There are scouts working on figuring this out in their own causes. We want to help them and we want to understand how we can take what they are learning -- the areas that they are mapping -- and share that with a broader audience so more people can become comfortable with this new terrain.
