This week's website winners and losers: UN Climate Change Conference

Oh, climate change.  Oh, the UN. A giant concept and a giant organisation, both with limited access points for the public, guarenteed to make you feel small, disempowered and unheard.  Well, it's that time of year again: it's the UN Climate Change Conference, and this year it's happening in Poland!

Survey: What do your members really think of you?

When online non-profit Avaaz sent me a survey today about what I thought of them, I was really relieved. Generally Avaaz does amazing work using online petitions. But recently, I'd been thrown off by a campaign that seemed totally out of keeping with their mission statement. However, whenever Avaaz does a controversial campaign, their next step is to send around a survey to check not only what their members thought of the campaign, but also to find out where members think Avaaz should be focussing their efforts.  Using a survey this way gives you a chance to actively listen to your donors - and it gives your donors a valuable chance to engage with your organisation.

Changeblogging!

To paraphrase Britt Bravo, Changebloggers are people who are using online resources to raise awareness, build community and facilitate everyone's taking action to make the world a better place. Qui Diaz originally posted the 3 questions that set off the Changeblogging meme and we've reposted them below with our responses - they look easy to answer, don't they?

Well, maybe it's that we're a brother and sister writing this blog. But it took us a long time to formulate a response. I wanted very badly to be able to write "I care about human rights, I write a blog about human rights, here are three ways you can make a difference and support - you guessed it - human rights."

Amazing Video by Avaaz.org

Part of the Nonprofit Technology Conference I went to earlier this month was a video contest for videos that move people to create social change, and promote nonprofit work.

The winner, "Stop the Clash of Civilizations" was created by Avaaz.org, and it is awesome. Gives me shivers each time I watch it.
