The Genocide Intervention Network, a N2Y2 Featured Project, is one of 12 nonprofit nominees in the Peace Primary produced by the Ploughshares Fund.

It's quite a clever contest. September 1-October 31, 2007 you can vote for the organization, or organizations, you care about the most with your dollars. Each dollar you donate through the Peace Primary site counts as a vote for that organization. They get to keep 100% of the donation and you get to write it off on your taxes. Whichever organization gets the most votes wins $100,000 from the Ploughshares Fund to put towards amplifying their message during the 2008 election.

Did you know that as of this writing, Hilary Clinton has raised $63,075,926, Barack Obama has raised $58,913,134 and Mitt Romney has raised $44,432,349? Mike Gravel, on the other hand, has raised $238,744.

Going a step beyond voting, people are using their video cameras and even cell phones to document voter intimidation, long lines, voter equipment problems, and to keep tabs of what's going on during the election.  

Video the Vote was inspired by American Blackout, a movie about voter suppression, and encourages citizens to film the vote.  Going one step further in futuristic media coverage, YouthNoise and Veeker are presenting Veek the Vote. A Veek is apparently a video taken with a cell phones (a video peek) and people are encouraged to take video peeks at their local elections and upload them.  People can then not only view streaming videos from people's cell phones, but can embed the veek the vote player on their site.  Actually, I'm going to do that right now.  Let's seek how it goes.
