Join us in congratulating the NCTech4Good - NetSquared Local Organizer, Judy Hallman, on winning the NTEN Lifetime Achievement Award!
The award was presented to Judy at the 2011 Nonprofit Technology Conference by Paula Jones, Director of Technology and Administration for the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.
Loads of new research has been released in the last month that can help nonprofits be more strategic in their approach to their work. These studies have findings that have major meta level implications for senior leadership down to nitty gritty details for fundraisers. Here's a round-up:
This week, the NetSquared team will be at the 2010 Nonprofit Technology Conference in Atlanta. We'll be presenting and facilitating, listening and connecting. One thing we are really excited about is the opportunity to hold an open spaces session on Thursday, forcused on open data and APIs. Participants can learn how their organization could use open data and APIs to show impact, coordinate volunteers, or inspire supporters to take action.
As social media becomes increasingly embraced by mainstream employers, how can you write a social media policy for your organization that both celebrates the positive side and addresses the negative side of social media? The March Net2 Think Tank asked for examples of effective social media policies and this round-up has some great examples to get you started creating a social media policy in your organization!
The Social Media for Social Good collection from NTEN and NetSquared calls for your case studies in leveraging social media tools in your program work.
Social Media for Social Good
Everywhere you turn, you’re hearing about social media. Especially when it comes to fundraising. But at NTEN and NetSquared, we know that social media is good for a lot more than raising money. We know that social media can be used to change the world. That’s why we’re launching the Social Media for Social Good case study collection!

Over the last week, technology has played an unprecedented role in bringing aid to and saving lives in Haiti. Over $22 million has been raised by the American Red Cross via text message (about a fifth of total Haiti-related giving to the organization so far). And then there's the role that Facebook and Twitter are playing.
November is full of thanks with Epic Change's TweetsGiving campaign and NTEN's Member Appreciation Month, plus much more. The end of the year holidays are also a very popular time for organizations to send messages of thanks to donors, supporters, volunteers, and their wider community. But, what are the best tools to use to deliver these messages; what's the best way to say Thanks! online?
We Are Media is a terrific resource for anyone looking for tips, examples, case studies and information on using social media in a nonprofit organization. Now, the content from We Are media is available to you in a brand new "Choose Your Own Expert" format. The best part: any path you choose will be a good one.
People of the Butterflies by Arto Teräs
Some of the most exciting conversations happening this summer are the discussions occurring among organizations that are preparing to take their work, projects, and events to the next level. What's really admirable is that across my favorite organizations - teams are having these discussions out loud and inviting feedback from you - the community!
This seems to be a slow summer - although I think under-the-surface it's more of a transformative one. Check out some examples to see what I mean - and then Join the Conversations!
Are you headed to San Francisco for NTEN's Nonprofit Technology Conference? Can't make it in person but will be following the conversations online? NetSquared's Global Community Builder, Amy Sample Ward, will be there to connect with you in person and online!
