I have just finished mentoring a number of graduate teams at the University of Auckland, School of Development. Develop 701 Development Practice and Research. I found the diversity of students and their enthusiasm for the process of handling some big assignments, such as putting a large NGO tender together, inspiring. It makes me wonder if you can do this much in a single term, with students, what the untapped potential is to create many social businesses and NGO's in underserved regions and communities.
I'm hoping to participate in a very unique trip to India for social entrepreneurs from JustMeans, and by participating hope to bridge networks, form new partnerships, and spur collaborations for as many in the NetSquared Community as I can. Because my goal for this trip is very much centered on the work and inspiration of this group of changemakers, I wanted to share my application here. You are invited and welcomed (and hugely thanked) for any support you give (by voting or commenting) as well as providing feedback about how I can help you!
India Social Entrepreneurship Journey, February 2010 Contest: Help me help you!
BusinessWeek launched its "search for the most promising social entrepreneurs in the U.S." to find the top companies aiming to both turn a profit and solve social problems.
I just submitted this as a question to Dan'l Lewin at the Business Model Revolution session. Included here so others can comment as well.
From my perspective at the CyberInstitute (online information for small businesses in developing countries), there are two major forces impacting the business model revolution.
--ONE-- ICTs, including mobile phones, and now all of Web 2.0, are leading to the empowerment of billions of people. These individuals, who are gaining equality with every click, are now customers that matter to big companies. In the flattening world, listening to the customer is more important than ever, because they are feeling empowered and want to be heard.
