What Does It All Meme for Nonprofits?

What do a surprised chipmunk, “I like Turtles” and Harry Potter have in common? They are all memes—bits of culture that are shared within societies. The internet has exponentially boosted the appearance and spread of memes. While it may be bewildering at first, the popularity of some internet memes can be tapped to help spread the messages of social-benefit organizations.

America's Sexuality Day-- an SOS for Sex-- Your Tech Help This Week

America's Sexuality Day www.sexdayusa.com will be announced on March 3, 2010-- only 15 days away. Over the past 2 months four web developers have said they'd volunteer. Unfortunately all four have had delays. We were hoping to have a press conference at The National Press Club in DC on 3/3. Without a web presence to establish our message, I am not sure the date and its symbolism will have a fair launch.

We are in SOS ASAP need for--

  • a Home page
  • an About page
  • a blog format that allows Twitter, FB feeds, and is heavy in growing community integration, and a forum.
  • help with getting our poster viral, would be nifty :)

Honestly, I'd be ecstatic right now just for the home page with an attached easy blog.

Viral Marketing Challenge: When They're Not Online

The challenge: creating a viral/guerrilla/buzz marketing campaign that reaches both those who are online and those who are less tech-savvy.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or ideas for a viral marketing campaign that is not just online - for example, setting up scavenger hunts in select cities, leaving giveaways for North Carolinians to stumble upon (see http://www.newsobserver.com/business/story/1237671.html), etc.
