Remote Control: should your non-profit hire a remote funding developer?

A remote funding developer. They work from home, they take up less support costs and they don’t involve supervisory time - what’s not to love? I worked as a remote funding researcher recently, and while I’m not willing to flat out say it doesn’t work (comments welcome from people doing just fine at this job) I am willing to tell you what to watch out for.

This is my first year not being at NetSquared in person and I'm trying to figure out the best way to follow (and maybe even engage with) the goings-on from here in North Carolina.

I just started using friend feed and I wonder if their "room" function might be helpful here. http://friendfeed.com/rooms/

I also plan to attend the event in SecondLife tomorrow, although I'm not sure what time is best to visit.

Other suggestions?

On Tuesday, May 30th at 4pm PDT Micki Krimmel, the Director of Internet Outreach for Participant Productions, will be speaking about, "Media that Mobilizes: An Inconvenient Truth, ClimateCrisis and More Tales from Participate.net" as part of NetSquared's remote conference.

Even though I'll be working at the face to face Net2 Conference, I'm going to try to sneak off to the Net2 Remote Conference Chat Room to participate in this chat.

Participant Productions is the company behind socially conscious films like Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth, Good Night and Good Luck, Syriana, Fast Food Nation, Murderball and North Country. The Online NetSquared Conference: Three Ways to Participate

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 30th and 31st, not only will the face to face NetSquared conference be happening, but so will the Online Conference.

You can participate in the Online NetSquared Conference in Three Ways:

1. Participate in the NetSquared chatroom where speakers like Mike Linksvayer of Creative Commons, Scott Heiferman of Meetup.com, Robyn Deupree of Bloglines, Rolf Kleef of Greenpeace and Micki Krimmel of Participant Productions will be sharing info. and answering questions.

2. Chat it up in the Conference Hallway chat room. We're using Gabbly.com for both chats which is super easy and user-friendly.

Since I sent out the call yesterday to be a NetSquared Remote Conference Moderator, I have more information about what would be involved.
