Greenpeace let JFK talk about Climate Change on YouTube

Greenpeace has launched a new video on YouTube to co-incide with their latest report “Energy [R]evolution: A Sustainable World Energy Outlook?”, produced by the European Renewable Energy Council, which provides a practical blueprint for rapidly cutting energy-related CO2.

The video features JFK arguing that “climate change threatens our very existence. Now is the time for an energy revolution.” Of course, JFK never said it, but the video went through a very good montage and a computer-generated process to achieve this.

Jed Sundwall: Are you in D.C.?

Phil Aroneanu: I am. I'm the only one in our crew in D.C., except for a couple of our interns. We're all spread out. There are a couple of us in San Francisco, well four of us in San Francisco, two of us in Vermont and one in Budapest. And we'll be hiring elsewhere around the world.

Hey there net2 gang. I've created a bunch of other sites to demonstrate some of the other layers of information I think could be pretty cool on the mashup. For my back end, I'm using ArcGIS to assemble complex databases, Brian Flood's excellent Arc2Earth to export much of the information as tile layers and kml. I'm getting mashed up rss feeds from yahoo pipes and from those enlightened souls who put georss or kml feeds of their information out there (for example, the EPA has begun kml feeds for air quality). While not strictly a climate change issue, air quality could get much better with emission reductions from coal fired power plants.

It takes about 18 seconds to replace a conventional incandescent bulb with a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulb. According to 18Seconds.org, "If every American swapped just ONE bulb for an ENERGY STAR labeled CFL, it would collectively save more than $8 billion in energy costs, prevent burning 30 billion pounds of coal, and remove 2 million cars worth of greenhouse gas emissions from our atmosphere."

WorldCoolers by Collactive allows users to download WorldCoolers' Collactive Desktop, receive articles about global warming, and share opinions and resources with others. I can't test it 'cause it requires Windows XP/2000, and I'm on a Mac, but it looks cool. Would somebody on a PC test it out and let me know what you think?

Project Description

Stop Global Warming seeks to create a virtual "March On Washington" around global warming issues. The site explores global warming and its effect on the environment and social communities by providing concise information on its causes and direct consequences on environmental destruction, weather changes, and public health.

The website also allows visitors to join the "virtual march" and start implementing change on an individual level. By offering simple action tips, which range from repairing plumbing leaks to recycling and transportation, Stop Global Warming makes global change easy to adopt.
