Free TechSoup online forums event: Online Activism: Social Media Tools for Social Change

TechSoup’s free day-long online event is coming up this Wed. May 14th: Online Activism: Social Media Tools for Social Change in the TechSoup online forums.

Dive into the conversation with hosts Heather Mansfield, owner of DIOSA Communications and Online Community Manager for Change.org and Carie Lewis, Internet Marketing Manager for the Humane Society of the United States, as they explore the ins and outs of using social networking sites and strategies for determining how, why, and when to use different applications to broadcast your message. In discussing the dos and don’ts of effectively fundraising and promoting your cause, we’ll also look at lessons learned from successful (and not so successful) online campaigns.

Going to the Nonprofit Technology Conference in New Orleans?

Want to meet members of the NetSquared, TechSoup and Nonprofits in Second Life community? Join us for cocktails on Wednesday, March 19th from 5-6:30 PM at Loa Bar in the International Hotel (221 Camp Street). We'll be meeting in the "altar" area.

It's super close to the Sheraton New Oreans (where NTC is being held). Here's a Google Map of the two locales.

It looks kinda fancy, so bring your party shoes!

Are you using Web 2.0 tools in your jobs?

TechSoup recently posted its 2nd annual Web Usage Survey. Interestingly, the tool use that increased the most was subscription to RSS feeds. 26.1% of users reported that they subscribe to RSS feeds, which represents a 19% increase over last year. The survey also found that although last year more people were using social web tools for their personal use than professional, that is changing:

Hi, Evonne Heyning here liveblogging from the Tech Innovation room at N2Y2 for the last session of Tuesday's event. During the break we had a great discussion on participation in these sessions; for those of us who are in the audience there have been many questions on the backchannel on how the audience can be more effective participants in this process. Billy @ TechSoup and Jean ~NurtureGirl~ Russell had some great comments on ways that VCs, foundations, busiensses, nonprofits and technology gurus can come together to add value to these discussions.

Please note that we are liveblogging here; not every word is here but I'll get as much as possible along the way.
