Hi everyone,

My name is Andy Lieberman and I recently began working with Santa Clara University's Center for Science, Technology, and Society on the KnowledeX Project. We are building a community of practice for social benefit entrepreneurs working to solve all kinds of problems, primarily in developing countries.

Prior to this job, I lived for a number of years in Guatemala and founded a non-profit that helps Mayans cross the digital divide without leaving their language and culture behind.

I look forward to an exciting couple of days with all of you.

I'm a commisioning editor working for a book publishing imprint named Jossey-Bass, which is part of a larger organization named John Wiley & Sons. I work on our Nonprofit & Social Leadership Series developing and publishing content for those working in the social sector (primarily nonprofit professionals, social entrepreneurs, volunteers and funders). On a day-to-day basis I am working to try and figure out what I can publish that will help these folks do their job better, reach their goals and ultimately achieve greater impact. I hit "the street" reguarly talking to people about their challenges and needs but a blog seems like a great way to reach a larger community.

I'm a social enterprise research consultant at the University of British Columbia, and I'm also working with Vancity Credit Union in Vancouver, British Columbia on accountability frameworks for social enterprise.

I'm interested in hearing about how social enterprises are using technology to improve their impact and performance. If anyone has an interesting stories or case studies - please don't hesitate to fire them my way.

If you answered yes, apply for the Global Young Social Entrepreneurs’ Competition. You may win an opportunity to be one of 100 participants to attend the Young Social Entrepreneurs’ Forum @ GK3 and the 3rd Global Knowledge Conference (GK3) that will bring 2000 participants to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 11-13, 2007. 10 young social entrepreneurs will get a chance to pitch for funding during the Forum and, if successful, fast-track their business with a fellowship under the Youth Social Enterprise Initiative, or with scale-up funding.

You can apply until September 9, 2007, and view the applications that have already been submitted here. Translation for 8 languages is available on the site.

According to an August 3rd post on Telecentre.org, 225 young entrepreneurs have already applied for the Global Young Social Entrepreneurs' Competition.
