There's always a story to tell at NABUUR - Why not be the person telling it?

If you're a journalist, a writer, or someone with an interest or talent for storytelling, you're in luck as today we present you with a new and exciting volunteering opportunity.

There is always something cooking in NABUUR Villages. When you're participating in the Villages as a Neighbour and are right smack in the middle of the action, your volunteer time is better filled with researching solutions for the project, making contact with organisations, working on the assigned tasks, etc. All these efforts may not leave much time for other things, but there are Neighbours who may wish to take on a reporting role and write stories about the developments taking place in the Villages.

154 Votes on Give Meaning...and Counting!

Remember a few days ago when we shared with you the efforts of Yoshinkel and Gamauli to raise votes on Give Meaning? It seems quite a lot of you were listening, and took swift action to make sure that the vote count rose through the GM roof!

Within 48 hours, the Yoshinkel and Gamauli project had reached their goal of 100 votes - and the votes are still coming in...Now showing 153...154...

Power failure? Send an SMS to NABUUR.com and update your volunteers online!

Technically it was already possible and now representtives of Villages on NABUUR.com, started to use SMS to update their online volunteers about current affairs like power failure.

Last week, the volunteers of the Village of Khandbari received a short update from their Local Representative Tejanath Pokharel ''No electricity in Khand''. This short message was sent by SMS to the NABUUR platform and published on the homepage of the Village. All volunteers know now that their Local Representative obviously want to be online but couldn't due to power problems. The reason for this could be that there are floods in Nepal.

See it all: http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/khandbari.

NABUUR volunteer opportunities now in Social Actions

I think I first met Peter Deitz at Web of Change, talking about his work as micro-philanthropy consultant, and his idea to mash up the actionable opportunities on all the platforms for social change. That became Social Actions, a platform where you can find things to do: join an event, sign a petition, donate to a cause, give out a loan, volunteer.

Those things you can do come from a variety of sources, like Care2, GlobalGiving, Kiva, Idealist.org, and starting this week, also from NABUUR, the online volunteer network.

Interview with Siegfried Woldhek of NABUUR (N2Y2 Featured Project)

Last month I interviewed Siegfried Woldhek, the founder and CEO of NABUUR for the NetSquared Podcast. NABUUR was one of the Featured Projects at the NetSquared Conference in May 2007. You can read a transcript of the interview below, and hear NABUUR's 5-minute pitch at the Conference here.

Siegfried Woldhek: Hi, I'm Siegfried Woldhek, and I'm the founder and CEO of NABUUR. NABUUR is an old Dutch word that means "neighbor." And it's chosen, that name, because we can now act as neighbors in the global village and help each other out, as neighbors do if they live together in a physical place.

NABUUR makes it possible for villages all around the world to get direct help from people that live elsewhere, far away or nearby, to solve local problems through the Internet. And the strange thing is, the wonderful thing is, that it actually works.

N2Y2 Con: Tech Innovations with GWNL, GINet,

Hi, Evonne Heyning here liveblogging from the Tech Innovation room at N2Y2 for the last session of Tuesday's event. During the break we had a great discussion on participation in these sessions; for those of us who are in the audience there have been many questions on the backchannel on how the audience can be more effective participants in this process. Billy @ TechSoup and Jean ~NurtureGirl~ Russell had some great comments on ways that VCs, foundations, busiensses, nonprofits and technology gurus can come together to add value to these discussions.

Please note that we are liveblogging here; not every word is here but I'll get as much as possible along the way.
