Expanding People's View on World Issues

On the Twitter account our goal is to present little known facts (ex: the formation of America including the addition of the phrases of "In God We Trust" and "One Nation Under God" in 1954/1956 during the Red Scare of the McCarthy era and against the wishes of the founding fathers).  We have news updates from Human Rights organizations, Major News providers and Environmental Agencies.

Our website is constantly updating and has articles relating to Human Rights issues such as Equal Rights for Women, Online (and off) Stalking and Harassment, Donations for National disasters, Links and information on organization where you can receive help or volunteer, etc.

BloodMoney Project

Challenges Entered:
On the simple user level people will use the site to search for products from their shopping lists, and companies they are interested in or recognize as the manufacturers of the said products. By submitting querries on certain products and companies, users will give us an indication of where research is needed, and become integrated into a community as they receive prompt feedback and see the new information incorporated into the database. On the research level we will welcome submission of new data as it comes along - news items, financial info from less accessible local sources (other than the SEC and other government sources that make financial data public), and anything else that might prove helpful. The two categories of information on the BMP site are articles of critical nature with a business element, and financial affiliation networks.

Community Based DigiMapping

Challenges Entered:
The shift from a corporate paradigm to an assessment approach that is proactive and grassroots requires a layering of information that builds over time. As a live and open research platform, the community based DigiMapping system would be ‘live’, open integrate information from a host of sources. Data from existing needs surveys would function as a layer of information. Ethnographic data would function as another layer- ethnographic information such as interviews with residents would offer a holistic picture of neighborhoods for comprehensive community profiles. Spatial data from a Geographic Information System (GIS) would be integrated, providing information that relationally identifies technology access centers and hubs within a neighborhood. Other layers such as building zones, number of clinics, census data, broadband cable routes, would be organized and accessible through our proposed mapping system. Once the mapping system is developed and accessible, the information would be open and available to community members via web portals in neighborhood hubs such as libraries, community centers and schools. As neighborhoods change, layers of information would continue to build and shift in the DigiMapping system.

Project Bija

Challenges Entered:
The primary interface is a map api - eg google maps.Divide the map on a country basis. Individual countries can be clicked upon. the second stage will divide those countries into clickable regions and the third stage dividing those regions into clickable local areas. Each scale provides more focus and filter.Clicking on a country zooms into the country. On the navigation bar are a series of links (Challenges, Resources, Organisations etc. Links open up to further sub links which then lead to information feeds (feeds are either RSS or scrapped using dapper) for that country divided into:1. Challenges. 2. Resources. 3. Non-Profit Sector.4. Private Sector. Zooming into the map allows more detail of filtered results for example, local newspapers, closer detail of which charities and companies are working in the area. Due to the greater detail required at local level users may log in to the site to add information via a wiki.
