Can You Build a Flash Widget for Reading Relief for Darfur?

While doing some consulting for Social Actions as a "Community Interpreter," I recently tried out their Social Actions Alerts that notifies you of actions (ie. volunteer opportunities, events, petitions) that interest you via email and cell. I set up a search for actions related to Darfur and have been getting 1-3 notices/week.

I thought I'd share the opportunity I got today with y'all in case who can help. An organization called the Book Wish Foundation is looking for someone to create a widget, like Sprout, to help get the word out about their project with Darfur refugees.

NABUUR volunteer opportunities now in Social Actions

I think I first met Peter Deitz at Web of Change, talking about his work as micro-philanthropy consultant, and his idea to mash up the actionable opportunities on all the platforms for social change. That became Social Actions, a platform where you can find things to do: join an event, sign a petition, donate to a cause, give out a loan, volunteer.

Those things you can do come from a variety of sources, like Care2, GlobalGiving, Kiva, Idealist.org, and starting this week, also from NABUUR, the online volunteer network.

Looking forward to the conference to start tomorrow morning. Some of my interests include technology, sociology, volunteering and project management. I think I can work all of those into play tomorrow.

NetSuite Giving Program for Nonprofits, Green Startups, Fair Trade Business and Social Entrpreneurs

In case you didn't see it last week, David Geilhufe posted about a new donation program NetSuite is offering. David is the Program Manager for NetSuite's philanthropy program, NetSuite Giving.

NetSuite Giving is accepting Requests for Applications till March 21, 2008 from US, Canadian and UK charities, green startups, Fair Trade businesses, and social entrepreneurs.

Grantees will receive NetSuite software and NetSuite employee volunteers to help them effectively use the donation.
