Trees v Solar Power

This interesting story demonstrates the difficulties of balancing competing interests working towards sustainable development.

What is more sustainable, the growth of Redwood trees; or chopping down those trees to stop overshadowing of solar panels? The Solar Shade Control Act of California was deployed by a homeowner upset that his solar panels were shaded. There have been moves to update the legislation to provides that if trees are there first they have priority but where trees grow to obscure a pre-existing panel, the owner of the panel can request the offending trees be removed.
