Applied Materials and The Tech Museum and Innovation have announced the 2008 Tech Awards Laureates! The 25 winners come from around the world, representing 12 countries, with projects applying technology for social change.

Britt Bravo is on a much-deserved vacation, so I'm stepping in for her to keep news and information about the social change web coming your way!

The UK Catalyst Awards highlight examples of individuals or groups putting social technology to use in connecting people and doing good. "It doesn't matter if you're a community group, a charity, in business, or just doing something smart in your own time – we can all do our bit." These stories offer ideas and inspiration about innovative uses of social technology that you or your organization can learn from.

Change Everything - the site we built for Vancity Credit Union - never seems to run short on surprises.

Shortly after it launched in 2006, a self-organized drive delivered more than 70 big bags of warm clothing to homeless shelters in Vancouver's downtown east side. Not long after, a Change Everything member called EnviroWoman captured our imaginations (and those of folks like WorldChanging and The Guardian) with her tales of living plastic-free for a year.

According to the Second Life Insider blog, Linden Labs, the creators of Second Life, are accepting nominations between now and July 22nd from the Second Life open source community for the 2007 Linden Lab Innovation Awards.

Tech Museum Awarding $250,000 to Innovators Using Technology to Benefit Humanity

The Tech Museum will be awarding $250,000 to innovators using technology to benefit humanity. Previous winners of $50,000 cash prizes include MIT OpenCourseWare, Malnutrition Matters and the Hib Vaccine Team. Nominations are due by April 3, 2006.
