We would like to enthuse people and develop a personal relationship with each of them. If anything, it will make people aware of the disease and give it a human face. What else have you done in this area of work?

BeatSarcoma is a young org. and 2008 is our first year of operations. We are partnering with other sarcoma organizations so as not to duplicate efforts.

Our initiatives this year are:

http://www.beatsarcoma.org/BeatSarcoma_Initiat.html

- 5K Fun Run

- Sarcoma Cup (regatta)

- Pacific Cup fundraiser

- BeatSarcoma Kid's Program (match donors with sarcoma kids in hospitals, so they can get books, stuffed sperm whale, etc...) - to date we have donated books to Stanford's Children Hospitals

- Fertility Preservation For Cancer Patients. Nat's Story

(note this is the video that I have actually put on this site)

Project goals:
Sarcoma accounts for 20% of kids' cancers. Every day, 10 school children in the US are diagnosed with sarcoma. It is a cancer that affects primarily children and young adults. YOur Founder (and Googler) was diagnosed at age 32. Yet less than 1% of federal cancer research budget is allocated to sarcoma. It is hard to detect, hard to diagnose, hard to treat. Surgery is the only cure but because it is hard to detect, it is often too late for surgery to be curative. It is very aggressive. By supporting sarcoma research, we are hoping to develop a) screening methods to sarcoma can be detected early and cured with surgery and b) cancer treatments that work when surgery isn't possible. Sarcoma resists a lot of current cancer treatments, often because no research has been done to refine the various regimens.Sarcoma research is several decades behind research for more common forms of cancer. Since it is so early in the learning curve, the incremental impact of every dollar will be huge. We are raising funds for a specific research project this year:http://www.beatsarcoma.org/SarcomaResearch_Updates.html We favor fundamental, translational and early clinical research as opposed to late clinical trials. The funding needs there are greater and the benefits far-reaching.
